| 2009 Shasta Raceway Park Demolition Derby Rules Safety
& Conduct:
- Regulation crash helmets must be worn during the event. Full face helmets highly
recommended.
- Seat belts must remain buckled during the event.
- Driver must remain in car during entire event unless when directed by officials.
- Anyone entering the pit area must purchase and display a pit wristband and signs the
waiver release.
- No animals allowed in the pit area.
- All injuries must be reported before leaving the track.
- Vehicle inspection will be from 10am to 4:30pm. Any derby car not in the inspection area
by this time will not be allowed to run. It is recommended you show up early to avoid
delays.
- Ramming of drivers door or disabled cars will not be permitted.
- The 2 minute rule will be enforced. If you start your car up after your 2 minutes is up
and proceed to start hitting cars we will stop the derby and will tow your car off the
premises. If this occurs you will not be welcome to future events. The officials will let
you know when your 2 minutes is up. If you see a flag being waved at you shut your car off
immediately.
- A mandatory drivers meeting will be held. All competitors must attend.
- Pit speed will be 5mph or less.
Disqualifications may result for the following:
- Sandbagging, staying is the background and doing little hitting.
- Getting tied up with another vehicle too long.
- Must make contact with another car on own power at least once every 2 minutes.
- Driver or pit crew being intoxicated, or having alcohol or drugs in the pit area.
- The driver is responsible for his/her crew and may be disqualified for their misconduct.
Tech Rules:
- Cars that have run in previous derbies will be allowed provided they can meet the
technical rules of this derby.
- No Chrysler Imperials, pick-ups, limos, foreign type cars, vans, or
commercial/utility vehicles.
- Remove all glass, headlights, taillights. Rear seats must be removed. All chrome strips
must be removed. Have your car ready to run before you get to the track.
- Maximum sized wheels shall be 15-inches even if the car came with 16-inch wheels. No
split rims.
- Any tire may be used as long as it does not exceed 15-inch rim.
- Gas tanks must be inside the car, located behind the drivers seat, and safely
secured. No plumbers tape or rubber straps. Gas can must be capped. All stock gas tanks
must be removed from underneath the car. Hole must be made in the floorboard around the
gas tank for possible spillage. No electric fuel pumps.
- A 12-inch hole in the hood is required above the carburetor.
- Battery must be moved inside the car and either is bolted or boxed to the floorboard. No
wire or plumbers tape, or rubber straps. Nylon belts are allowed. Battery must be
completely covered with inner tube to protect the driver. Two batteries are allowed.
- Fender wells and bumper tip may be trimmed.
- All doors must be chained, bolted, or welded.
- Four hood bolts allowed. A gusset measuring 6X6X6 and placed in each corner will be
allowed for you to weld your bolts on to. The bolt will be no bigger than 1-inch in
diameter. Washers no bigger than 4-inches in diameter. May also have two chains in the
hood. Nothing attached to the frame.
- All chains used to secure doors; hood and trunk must be strong enough to tow a car. No
roller type chain allowed.
- Seat belts are mandatory. Driver seat must be welded and or bolted to the floor. Bucket
seat allowed.
- All cars must have suitable seat belts securely bolted to body or frame.
- Spare tire must be removed.
- Mufflers can be removed and exhaust run through hood.
- Engine mounts may be welded, bolted, or chained down. You may have a total of 4-inches
for your motor mounts. EXAMPLE: 2-inches on your motor mounts and 2-inches for the head
strap. Its up to you to decide how you want to divide this up. THIS RULE WILL BE
STRICTLY ENFORCED!
- Motor head straps must go straight down to frame. No forward angle unless impossible.
But this will be the tech officials decision in the end.
- A distributor relief hole may be cut in the firewall. A maximum of 12 X 12
hole is allowed.
- Any 5 mph bumper allowed on any car. Mounts may be like this example if homemade.
1/2-inch thick X 4-inches wide X 12-inches long. Mounted on the side of the frame
only. If using stock brackets they must be OEM only. The 4-inch wide can be any material
such as 4X4 square tubing, 4-inchj channel, or 4-inch flat plate. You may weld inner shell
to outer shell, 12-inch maximum on top and bottom where they meet. No hammering them down
to make them meet.
- All cars must have an air cleaner. Any type allowed as long as it has an element.
- Numbers on the side of car and on roof must be 24 in height. No profanity allowed
anywhere on the car.
- Mandatory bracing. Maximum of 4-inch round or square metal bracing. Bracing on
doors-passenger side will extend no more than 6-inches behind the bar behind the seat. The
bar behind the seat will be no more than 4-inches away from the back of the seat. A
rollover post may also be installed. The rollover post must be welded behind the back of
the seat and attach to the roof using ½ inch bolts. None of the bracing can touch the
frame or floorboards.
- Locked or posi-traction rear ends are optional.
- Ignition switch and transmission shifter may be modified.
- Transmission coolers are allowed. They must be covered if its on the inside of the
car.
- No reinforcing, cutting, or welding of any kind except as stated in the rules.
- Radiators must remain in stock location.
- Drivers door-plate of iron allowed in window slot for safety.
- Must have window bars in the front windshield. Back window is optional. Bars will be a
maximum of 1 ½ inches thick or wide. Must be securely welded or bolted in place.
- All hoods or trunk lids are subject to opening before or after the derby.
- All frames and body panels are subject to be drilled before, during, or after the derby.
- No welding or taping of leaf springs or suspension. Three spreaders or spacers in coil
springs allowed. Spacers may be welded to coils. Shocks must be stock. Five clamps per
leaf spring allowed. Clamps may be no more than 2-inches wide and 5-inches long, and ½
-inch thick. Rear coil springs may be welded to perch. You may wrap one chain per side
from axle to humps.
- Rear leaf spring shackles may be relocated. Using in place of the stock shackle a plate
no more than 2-inches wide X 4-inches long X ¼-inch thick.
- Height of car can be no more than 20-inches from bottom of bumper to ground. Cars
derbied before are exempt from this rule.
- No sheet metal screws anywhere on car.
- Deck lids may be welded in. 12-inches on all four sides. You must cut a 14-inch hole for
inspection.
- Stock body mounts in stock positions. Do not move or add body mounts.
- No welding inner panels to outer panels.
- Trunks may be welded 12-inches on all four sides and have two chains in it. Must have a
14-inch inspection hole.
- No grinding, painting, undercoating, or welding on the frame. RULE WILL BE STRICTLY
ENFORCED.
- #9 Wire okay.
- Metal for doors and trunk and deck lid may not exceed 2-inch X 1/4-inch flat strap.
Rebar okay.
- No frame repair on any car new or used.
- If it is not in the rules then you cannot do it! The tech officials decision is
final. No arguments.
