Flips, Fires, Friction and Fun as Pro 4s and Legends Take to SRP
It's hard to imagine that the Pro 4 Modifieds could put on a better
show than the last one, but they did. 11 of these awesome cars hit the track with
times nearly as fast as their full size cousins and battled long and hard in all their
races but it was John Barker in the smokin' #14 who took the checkered home. The fans are
looking forward to the next race on Aug. 9th with the Pro 4 Mods will be returning to race
at Shasta Raceway Park.
Triple Crown win in the Legends
The Legends of the Pacific held their points race at the track and 12
beautiful Legend cars took the field including Chad Foster in the #12 Monster Energy Legend. Foster dominated the
racing by winning the Legends Trophy Dash, his Heat Race, and taking a hard fought win in
the Feature Event. Micah Parmer set the fastest lap of the night in qualifying with 18.870
seconds, but was unable to overcome Foster, who qualified second, in the Trophy Dash.
A highlight of the main event was a spectacular oil fire. As Dallas
Colodny the driver of the #72 Legend, came out of turn one he heard a strange popping
sound and suddenly the entire car erupted in a comet-like ball of flames. The talented
young driver, who normally runs in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge (4th in current points
standings) drove the car to the hasty stop and bailed from cockpit before he suffered any
injuries. Fans and officials alike agreed it was one of the most spectacular car
fires in the history of the Shasta track.
Gotta love the Modifieds - each time they race
it is a guaranteed awesome run, and Saturday night was no exception.
"Badboy" Kyle Borden wheeled his #39x around the track for the fastest
qualifying lap at only 16.419 seconds. The Trophy Dash line-up finished with Kelly Peacock
taking the win followed by Kevin Brink, Jon Vanderpool and Badboy Borden. Veteran
Shasta runner Stan Gunderson took his first Heat Race win of the night and the other heat
win went to Guy Young. But it was all about the "Racin' Auctioneer", Mr.
Jack Epperson during the Feature Event. Epperson dominated that race and held the
lead during a couple of yellow flag restarts while a bit of bumping and banging ensued
behind him.
Another Triple Crown - and a bit of Brotherly Love in the Late
Models
Substituting for Alan Pyszora this week, Steven Gannon - multi-class
champion from Shasta Speedway and the Red Bluff Outlaws, took the National Guard #8 to
Victory Circle in twice. Brother, Eric Gannon in the Need2Speed #2 set the quick
time of the night. Steven qualified 4th won the Trophy Dash, his Heat Race and the
Main Event. However, it was not an easy win. Eric rode his tail the whole
time. As the laps ticked down Eric increased the pressure on little brother,
sticking the nose of his car way up under the body of the #8. "It was good
clean fun" Said Steven after the race. "The car was not perfect, but I wasn't
gonna let Eric get by." I knew he raced me clean, and that's what makes it so
much fun."
Hornets on their Hoods !
Although I don't currently have the results for the Hornets battles, I can tell you that
Beau Nicholson took a nasty flip right in front of the flagstand - track crew got their
quick and Beau was A-OK.
Shasta Raceway Park is dark this coming weekend. But will return to
action Aug. 9th with another great show of Pro 4 Modifieds, Late Models, Modifieds,
Bombers and a swarm of Hornets !!!
Hornet results will be available asap
Shasta Raceway Park would like to welcome

July 3rd, 2008 - No Fireworks, in the Sky, That Is
Although the traditional 3rd of July "Anderson Explodes" firework show was
postponed due to the extreme fire danger, the "on-track" fireworks made up for
the aerial display. In Late Model action, Derek Copeland set the fast time at a
super fast 16.939 seconds. Trophy Dash saw Copeland, Eric Gannon, Alan Pyszora and
Bill Lancaster battling for 4 laps. Despite some strong nudges from Lancaster Eric
Gannon held off the pack to take the Trophy Dash Win. The Main Event saw some major
contact between Gary Pyszora and son, Alan which took both frustrated drivers to the back
of the pack. The top 3 runners, Bill Lancaster in the lead, Eric Gannon and Derek
Copeland fought a long hard race but in the white flag lap Derek took an opportunity to
dive under Lancaster to take the checkered flag. This was the second win for
Copeland in only 4 starts in the Hen House sponsored Late Model.
Modifieds - it just keeps getting better. This week saw 11 cars fill
the field with new comers Tyler Wolf and Keith Bloom Jr. running in the class. When
not running at Shasta, Tyler Wolf runs a 410 Sprint Car at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway.
Bloom, like Wolf, comes from the Red Bluff Outlaws Dirt Kart background, but Bloom
has moved in the Wingless Spec Sprint division at Silver Dollar and has maintained a top
points position all season. Fast time for the division was set by Kyle Borden in the
#39X and in the Trophy Dash long-time Shasta Modified driver Kelly Peacock held off last
years champ, Keven Brink to take the trophy win. In the Main Event Charlie Kramm
took to the front of the pack quickly with Kelly Peacock in tow. But Kramm's 6K
MetroPCS sponsored car held off the whole field to take a much celebrated win.
Mini Stocks - Dale Stelt took his wicked-fast VW bug around the track for
the fastest lap in qualifying. He was pitted against Nanci Wright, Ken Krause and
Scotty Murphy for the Trophy Dash. But Scotty Murphy, who just returned to racing
after his car suffered a major accident took the win. The Main Event saw some
awesome racing and Ken Krause took the flag just ahead of Stelt and Christopher Kuska.
The
Bombers - Robert Pacey once again set fast time in the class - with a 20.034 second lap.
But it was young David Dillenger who took the honors in the Trophy Dash. David continued
his winning night by also winning the Main Event.
JUNE 28, 2008 - Smoky and Smokin - A Night at the Races in Shasta
Despite thick smoke from
the hundreds of fires burning in the area, intrepid fans braved the heat and the smoke to
be witness to some of the best racing of the seasons. There was an EPIC battle
between Bill Lancaster and Gary Pyzsora during the Late Model main event. - READ MORE...

Points are updated through the June 14th event.
Attention Hornet teams & Boat Race Competitors. The Shasta District Fair is
having the Outlaw Monster Trucks come to Shasta Raceway Park on July 12th. The
Hornets will also run that evening with a split main event, 10 laps right way, & 10
laps opposite way. First place will pay $50, Second $30, and Third will pay $20.
This will be an SRP Points race for the Hornets. Also the same evening July
12th will feature an invitational 'Boat Race.'
Congratulations to the Shasta District Fair Night Race Winners: #2 Eric
Gannon garnered his second LM main event of 2008, likewise 2007 SRP Modified
champion #23 Kevin Brink charged to his second win of the season.
2007 Bomber Champ #89 Bobby Crowell captured his third win of the year.
In the fan-friendly Hornet Division #68 Joe Knox brought home the
trophy. Hot-shot Laurie Weber won the first ever Hornet Powder Puff
event in the #2 Alvin Gitchell mount.
For those of you concerned about Jeremy Ammon and the burns he
suffered during the refueling of the #15 Late Model last Saturday Night, I talked to him
yesterday and he is home recuperating. He did incur second degree burns on his lower
leg. Note that this is the second refueling fire at SRP this year. It is
speculated that ESD (electro-static discharge) was the ignition source for both incidents.
My position is that the SRP racing community will learn from Jeremy's injury.
On Monday Rod Pedersen and I went to the Anderson Fire District and met with Chief
Joe Piccinini to discuss the two incidents and give them background info on how teams are
equipped and how they are currently doing refueling. AFD has agreed to research and
report back to us. As a stop gap measure starting with the June 28 event all race
teams will be required to have at least a 2.5 lbs fire extinguisher in their pit, staged
and ready (not in your trailer) all teams that refuel in the SRP pit area will be required
to do a two-person fueling operation. Crew member #1 will do the fueling and crew
member #2 will be ready with an extinguisher in hand in case a fueling accident occurs.
Both refueling crew members must be 18 years or older. This is now the
official fueling/refueling policy of Shasta Raceway Park.
